Surface Modification of Polyester Fabric with Monochromatic Excimer UV Radiation at Wavelength of 222nm

In this paper, PET fabrics were irradiated by excimer UV light at wavelength of 222nm in air condition. Surface properties of fibers from untreated and irradiated fabrics were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray scattering (XRD). The results showed that surface element proportion of carbon and oxygen, surface morphology, surface crystal structure of irradiated fibers were changed. The influences of irradiated time on wetting and dyeing properties of PET fabrics were measured and analyzed. The results indicated that the wetting and dyeing characteristic of PET fabrics were improved by irradiation.
