AE Characteristics of Damage Behavior in PE/PE Composite Laminates

An approach of wavelet multi-resolution and time-frequency-energy analysis is presented to identify characteristics of acoustic emission (AE) signals generated by different damage behaviors. Technique of wavelet time frequency-energy analysis is then employed to identify the characteristics of the reconstructed signal. Different stacking sequences, 0°, +45°/-45°, 90° and pure resin are used to trigger different damage mechanism during testing. Results show that different types of damage generate AE signals varying in amplitude, duration time and frequency content. Typical signals and characteristics are presented in this paper. As a result, the approach can be effectively utilized for identifying damage mechanism in PE/PE composite laminate.4
