Influence of Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) on the Properties of Polyacrylonitrile (PAN)-based Carbon Paper
Carbon paper plays an important role in gas diffusion layer (GDL) for fuel cell electrode. Carbon paper was made of PAN-based carbon staple fiber through wet- making method and then the carbon paper was doped by PTFE solution with different concentration for hydrophobic treatment. The influence of PTFE on the area density, resistance, porosity and contact angle of carbon paper were studied. The experimental results showed that carbon paper with 20%wt PTFE solution had optimal properties. Carbon paper with thickness of 0.3mm, area density of 0.0118g/cm<2>, resistance of 109mΩ?cm, porosity of 85.51% and water contact angle of 130° was produced.
