Research on the Permeability of Basalt Fiber in VARTM
The permeability of several basalt fiber reinforcements was investigated under VARTM (Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding) process with 1D Darcys law. The experimental results showed that effects of injection pressure, the viscosity and the type of test fluid on the permeability were not obvious. The reinforcements with different structures and different number of layers gave out different permeability. Moreover, the permeability of various combinations of different fabrics was mainly decided by the fabric whose permeability is smaller.
