Crystanllization Analysis for Poly (trimethylene Terephthalate)/Poly (Butylene Terephthalate) Blends

Both cold and melt crystallization behavior, together with non-isothermal melt crystallization kinetics for Poly (trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT)/ Poly (butylene terephthalate) (PBT) blends were studied via DSC method. Parameters ΔT<,h> and ΔT<,c> were used to characterize the crystallizability of the blends, and Jeziorny equation was applied to describe the melt crystallization kinetics. The experimental results indicated that during the cold crystallizing process, the addition of a small quantity of PBT restrained the cold crystallization of PTT component, but when PBT component was above 20%, the existence of a large quantity of PBT promoted the cold crystallizability of the blends. While during the melt crystallizing process, the addition of a second component restrained the crystallization of the system. It could also be found that the crystallizing rates of the blends increased along with the increasing cooling rates, the Avrami exponent around 3 and 4 indicated that the blends crystallized in three-dimensional way into spherical crystals, and both homogeneous nucleation and heterogeneous nucleation existed.
