The Study of Interfacial Energy of Glass Fiber Reinforced Composites by AFM and the Mechanical property of the Composites

Dewetting behavior of glass fiber surface is one of the focuses in Chemical Engineering. However, determination of the surface energy by conventional Contact-Angle Measurement is not only complicated but also affected by lots of factors. In this report, various kinds of silane coupling agents were used to modify the surface energy of glass fiber, and a new method-AFM Method was used to study the surface property of the glass fiber modified by silane coupling agents. The modified glass fiber can enhance the adhesion of the fiber/polymer matrix interface in the composite materials, so the mechanical properties of the glass fiber reinforced epoxy composites were investigated.
