UV Light Degradation of Poly (phenylene sulfide)/Nano-CeO<,2> Composites
To stabilize the properties of poly (phenylene sulfide) (PPS) films and fibers caused by UV irradiation, nano-cerium dioxide (CeO<,2>) was used to modify the polymer. The influences of nano-CeO<,2> content and the time of UV irradiation on the storage modulus, crystallinity and the molecule structure of PPS composites have been investigated using DMA, DSC and reflection FTIR. The results indicated that the addition of nano-CeO<,2> led to higher storage modulus and higher melting temperature. During the UV irradiation, nano-CeO<,2> accelerated the cross- reaction of PPS chains, thus improving the dynamic mechanical property. Amorphous region obviously enhanced, while the crystal region reduced in the surface of film. Nano-CeO<,2> retarded the degradation of PPS caused by UV irradiation.
