The Stress Relaxation Behavior of PVC Calendered Flexible Composites
As a newly arisen composites material, calendered flexible composites have been widely used in membrane structure, inflatable structure and other fields. Although the coated polymers, such as Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), Polyurethane (PU), are nonlinear viscoelastic materials, the time-dependent behavior of calendered flexible composites is still not clear attributed to the diverse structure of the reinforcement. In this paper, tests were conducted on the specimens reinforced with different fabrics structure under different stress relaxation conditions to obtain the time-dependent response of the PVC calendered flexible composites. Although all the composites also behaved in viscoelastic manner, their relaxation parameters varied with the fabric structure and the pre-stretch settings which influence the final application and should be seriously considered for designers.
