A Novel Fiber Reinforced Composite Tube Imitated Inter-node Structre of Bamboo Fabricated by Filament Winding
Bamboo, one of the strongest natural structural materials, has many distinguishing features. It has been found that its reinforcement unit, the inter- node, plays an extremely important role in its mechanical properties. Can we make the FRP tubes which have bamboo like inter-node structure? Here we demonstrate a novel composite tube imitated inter- node structure of bamboo, prepared by filament winding. The results indicate that the FRP tubes reinforced by nylon slices have more preferable mechanical properties compared with common FRP tubes. The reasons of the enhancement of the mechanical properties are analyzed in this paper. With the improvement of mechanical properties, these FRP tubes are expected to be widely used in industry and daily life.
