Synthesis and Characterization of PCL-based and PCL/PEG-based Shape Memory Polyurethanes for Smart Textiles
A series of PCL-based and PCL/PEG-based segmented shape memory polyurethanes (SMPUs) were prepared from polycaprolactone diol (PCL), polyethylene glycol (PEG), 2, 4-toluene diisocyanate (TDI), 1, 4- butanediol (BDO) and glycerin (GA). Their microstructure, thermal and mechanical properties, and water vapor permeability (WVP) were investigated by DSC, WAXD, water vapor permeability measurement and tensile testing. The results indicated that the PUs with crystalline soft segments were temperature- sensitive, the WVP of PU membranes increased significantly with the experimental temperature reaching crystal melting temperature of soft segment. The PCL/PEG-based segmented PUs exhibited better water vapor permeability than other PUs. Moreover, its obvious that PCL-based PUs showed more excellent mechanical properties than PCL/PEG-based PUs with rising of hard segment content.
