The Microwave Absorption Characteristics of the Incorporation of Carbon Fibers to Glass Fiber/epoxy Composites

The carbon fiber produced by Donghua University was used as a microwave absorbent to make radar absorbing composites. The carbon fiber bundles were designed to align parallel with each other in the epoxy resin at different loads and sheets as well as various gaps between two bundles. The absorbent performance of these composites was investigated by network analyzer in the frequency range 2-18 GHz. The results show that not only the weight percent of carbon fiber but also the way of carbon fiber arranged in the epoxy, such as sheets number and gaps between bundles influenced the absorption properties. When the content of carbon fiber is 3.2wt%, the composite achieved good reflection loss value of -18.64dB. The absorbent mechanism was discussed based on the theory of electromagnetic.
