Effects of Alcohol Content in Coagulation Bath and Coagulant Temperature on Properties and Structure of Poly (vinyledene fluoride)/polyethersulfone Blend Membrane
The effects of some membrane preparation conditions on the properties and structure of poly (vinylidene fluoride)/polyethersulfone blend membranes were studied. Poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) and polyethersulfone (PES) were employed as base polymers. DimethyI acetamide (DMAc) was selected as the solvent and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) was used as pore-forming additive. The preparation variables in this work were alcohol content in coagulation bath and coagulant temperature. The flat-sheet membranes prepared by phase inversion were characterized by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Membrane performance was evaluated by pure water flux and retention to bovine serum albumin (BSA). The pure water flux of blend membranes decreases and the retention to BSA increases with increasing content of alcohol in coagulation bath and decreasing coagulant temperature.
