Highly Flexible Low Temperature Polyallophanate Powder Coating with an Excellent Weathering Resistance
In view of the commencement of the VOC-guidelines, regulating the reduction of the emission of organic compounds, emission free powder coatings become an attractive alternative to solvent based and even waterborne coating systems. Within the scope of several research projects new powder coating systems and catalyzed processes were developed. Highly flexible powder coatings with excellent mechanical properties can be cured completely at temperatures below l50℃. Furthermore a two step curing process was developed for a new processing technology. Two dimensional metal sheets (e. g. aluminum) can be coated at low temperatures and then formed directly into complex units. This strategy reduces the use of cost intensive and ecologically harmful cleaning processes. If required an independent second curing process can be followed up at higher temperatures, e. g. to enhance the stability of the coated units. At the state of the art no forming stable powder coating system is available for coil coating processes, so there is a high demand of developmental work which can be realized on the basis of the two step curing together with fast application and curing technologies.
