Kinetic of Uncatalyzed Reaction of IPDI with MPEG as a Model Reaction for the Process that Yields Comblike Polymer

In the present work, a classical method was utilized for determination the free isocyanates of the uncatalyzed model reaction of isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) with methoxy polyethylene glycol (MPEG), which was run in the medium of acetone. The kinetics of the reactions were studied. Such conditions made it possible to find rate constants and activation energy values for the second-order reactions. Those reactions can be employed to produce isocyanate prepolymers, which make intermediates for downstream materials. The kinetics of the uncatelyzed reaction were described by two independent second-order equations giving the reactions of two different isocyanate groups (primary and secondary), the reaction of those two different isocyanat groups lead to the formation of intermediates of different structure, infrared spectra (IR) and size exclusion chromatography (SEC) were developed to characterize the intermediates and the molecular weight distribution was calculated by using a combination of kinetic and probabilistic arguments.
