Structure and Properties of Chitosan and Sodium Alginate Complex Membrane

In this paper, the chitosan and sodium alginate complex membranes were prepared. Their structure and properties were studied by FTIR, X-ray diffraction and tensile testing. The FTIR and X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the polyion complex was formed and there was strong interaction and good compatibility between chitosan and sodium alginate. Tensile testing results indicate that with the increase of sodium alginate, tensile strength of blended films increased. Absorption studies were carried out to investigate the interaction of complex membrane with natural dye rhizoma coptidis. The results showed the complex membrane with mass ratio 1:1 had better dyeability with rhizoma coptidis.
