Apatite-Poly (ε-caprolactone) (PCL) Composite Prepared by an Alternate Soaking Process
Poly (ε-caprolactone) (PCL) with a bone-like apatite layer bound to its surface could be useful as a scaffold for tissue engineering applications. In the present study, the surface of PCL was treated with aqueous NaOH to introduce carboxylate groups onto the surface. An alternate soaking proccess, which involves alternate soaking in a CaCl<,2>/ tris-HCl aqueous solution (pH 7.4) and a Na <,2>HPO<,4> aqueous solution, was utilized to prepare a composite of PCL and apatite. The HAP formation ratio depended on the reaction cycle number. The characteristics of apatite formed on the surface of PCL have been studied using X-ray diffiracttion, Fouriertransform infirared spectrophotometry (FT-IR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
