Preparation and Characterization of Cellulosic Fabrics Treated with SiO<,2>Gel
Silica gel was formed on cellulosic fabric by sol-gel method. The content of silica gel on fabrics was investigated by weight method. BET, SEM, XRD, FTIR- ATR, and XPS were used to characterize the fabric carriers with silica gel. The results showed that the specific surface area of fabrics after treatment significantly increases. The specific surface area shows 4.72 times higher for the treated cotton and 2.03 times higher for the treated flax than their respective untreated one. FTIR-ATR and XRD results showed that the surface coating with silica gel by the present method has no effect on the microstructure of fibres. XPS analysis indicated that the state of SiO<,2> is present on the treated fabrics.
