Application of Composite Hydrosol as Anti-felting Agent

The alkoxysilane and TiO<,2> sols were prepared by the sol-gel method using tetrabutyl titanate (TTB) and γ-glycidyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTMS) as precursors, respectively. And the composite sol was prepared by the blend of alkoxysilane and TiO<,2> sol. FTIR, XRD and PCS were used to characterize sols. The influence of the TiO<,2> content in the composite sol on anti-felting property of wool fabric was investigated according to I. W. S TM31. Results show that the size of the alkoxysilane, TiO<,2> and their hybrid particles in sol are about 15, 25 and 27nm, respectively. SiO-Ti bond forms in the powder of the composite sol. The crystalline structure of TiO<,2> powders is identified as the amorphous oxide network. In contrast with alkoxysilane sol, composite sol can lower the curing temperature efficiently when TiO<,2> content is 2.7%, and area shrinkage of treated fabric is 1.9%.
