Preparation of PAN/PMMA Composite Nanofibers Obtained by Electrospinning
Composite nanofibers of polyacrylonitrile/polymethylmethacrylate (PAN/PMMA) aimed to be used as a novel precursor of carbon nanofibers were prepared by electrospinning using N, N-dimethyl formamide (DMF) as solvent; and the as- electrospun nanofibers have diameters in the range of 550±80nm. Electrospun nanofibers morphology was investigated using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). The structure and thermal properties were investigated by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and fourier transform infrared (FT-IR). The diameters of nanofibers decrease slightly as the applied voltage is increased; however, they increase with increasing the concentration of the polymer solution. Electrospun PAN/PMMA composite nanofibers degraded at a higher temperature as compared to PAN homopolymers fibers.
