Carbon Nanofibers Prepared by Spinning of Polymer Blends and Followed Carbonization of Blend Fibers

Carbon nanofibers (CNFs) were prepared by spinning of polymer blends and then followed carbonization. The phenol-formaldehyde resin (PF) and Polypropylene acrynitril (PAN) were used as a carbon precusor polymer (CPP), them was mixed with the thermally decomposable polymer (TDP) polypropylene (PP) and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) respectively by melt blending ans solution blending, The PF/ PP and PAN/ PMMA blend fibers were obtaind after spinning of polymer blends. The oxidation and carbonization was applied to treal these blend fibers. The PP and PMMA was eliminated during the oxidation and carbonization, the remainned PF and PAN was in nanofiber form with a dimeter about 100-500nm. The diameter of CNFs could be adjusted by controling draw ratio during the fiber formation. The degree of graphite structure in CNFs was gradually perfected with increasing carbonization temperature. The electric conductivity of CNFs becomes higher with increasing carbonization temperature.
