Research of Dry Friction Model for Vehicle Steering System
This paper presents the modeling method of dry friction for a vehicle steering system. Three models of nonlinear stick-slip friction, named Coulomb model, Karnopp model and Spring damper model, were presented and analyzed. Based on the vehicle steering system structure, the steering system dry friction solution algorithm under slip and stick conditions was developed. The simulation program was embedded in vehicle dynamic simulation software which is developed by State Key Laboratory of Dynamic Simulation. The results indicate that this model can simulate the nonlinear characteristic with high precision and has value in vehicle dynamic simulation.
