On Failure Rate of Mechanical Components Based on Load-strength Interference Model

Based on the load-strength interference theory, this paper develops the time-dependent reliability model of mechanical components, studies the relationship between reliability and time and that between the failure rate and time, and analyses the factors that affects the failure rate of components. From the statistic meaning of load action, the reliability model of a component under repeated random load is derived with the order statistic. Further, the loading process described by Poisson stochastic process, the time-dependent reliability model of a component without strength degeneration is developed. The result shows that when strength doesnt degenerate the reliability and the failure rate of components decreases with time. It is pointed out that the early failure and higher failure rate of components is not caused only by the initial flaw of component but is determined by both random load action and component strength together.
