Lack of Upregulation for Sheep Beta-Defensin 1 mRNA in vivo upon Salmonella enterica Infection in Digestive Tract
Defensin is antimicrobial peptide that play an important role in the innate immune in digestive and respiratory tracts. Up to date, the function of sheep beta-defensin 1 (sBD1) is still unknown. We used a real-time RT-PCR method to detect the expression of sBD1 and sheep IL-8 during Salmonella enterica infection in digestive tract. Salmonella enterica infection were performed by part of jejunum injection and taken by mouth, the results showed Significant upregulations in expression of sheep IL-8. However, the decreased changes in expression of beta-defensin 1 were observed. We conclude that beta-defensin 1 was lack of upregulation during S. enterica infection under these conditions.
