2-7 The Role of Silicon in Steels on Galvanized Coatings
College of Materials Science and Engineering, South China University of Technology, 510640 Guangzhou. China; In this paper, five kinds of silicon-containing steel sheets were electrodeposited with a layer of iron, then immersed in a pure molten zinc bath at 450℃ for various periods of time. By observing the transfer of silicon from steel to coating and the effect of silicon on Γ, δand ζ, the role of silicon in steels on galvanized coatings are investigated. SEM results shows that the coatings present different microstructures from the counterparts without the iron-electrodeposited pretreatment. The effect of silicon on the Γ phase is observed. EDS results show that there exists excessive silicon accumulation on the surface of the steel substrate during galvanizing.
