2-10 The effect of Si in base steel on the structure of hot-dip zinc coatings
The commercial pure iron and Fe-0.1wt. %Si alloy were galvanized at temperatures in the range of 450-530℃ insteps of 10℃. The results show that the coating of commercial pure iron forms fastest at 480℃, while the Fe-0.1%wt.%Si alloy does at 470℃. There exist some similarities in structures between the two types of hot-dip galvanizing samples formed at the fastest growth temperature. When galvanized above 500~C, the ζ phase disappears and the δ phase becomes the principal phase in the coating of the two kinds of materials. The formation of the ζ phase is determined by immersion temperature and independent on the content of Si. The results indicate that Si can restrain the growth of the δ phase in the coatings.
