2-11 Measurement and Molecular Dynamics Calculation of the Diffusion Coefficient of Al in Liquid Zinc (2at. % Al)

The growth of the Fe<,2>Al<,5-x>Zn<,x> is controlled by the diffusion of the aluminum in zinc bath The diffusion coefficient of Al in liquid zinc containing 2at. % aluminum was established using 1.5mm-diameter capillaries at the temperature usually employed in galvanizing baths (723k). The diffusion constant was determined by establishing the concentration along the length of the capillaries and calculating the coefficient using error-function solution. Meantime, the diffusion process was simulated with molecular dynamics with TB and Morse potential. Five order predictor corrector method was used to calculate the numeric integration. The diffusion coefficient was determined from the Einsteins equation.
