3-6 Investigation of the influence of cooling rates on microstructure of 5% zinc-aluminum coating
Traditional hot galvanizing steel is good for corrosion resistance in atmosphere, but serious salt suffer from regional zinc layer was easy to react with the sea salt particle in coastal area, corroded with salty environment. 5% Al-Zn is researched and developed with economy in Taiwan. Evaluation of the different air cooled and water quenched systems on microstructure coating characterization; electrochemical corrosion testing; cabinet exposure tests. It was shown by the experimental result under the different air cooled and water quenched treatment condition. 5% Al-Zn consists of a progression of zinc-aluminum-iron alloy layers bonded metallurgic ally to the base steel and to the relatively outer zinc-aluminum layer. Its coatings proved to be the most corrosion resistant than tradition galvanizing coating during the accelerated corrosion test for 2500 hours.. This paper tries to be distributed and explained by microstructure and element depth profile why corrode rates difference from.
