Current Market Situation of Chinese High Efficiency Motors
Most electrical drives in industry, commercial service, national defenses and public service are powered by electric motors. Nowadays on average, the motors accounts for over 50% of the total electricity consumption, and over 70% of the industrial electricity use all over the world. Hence, to improve the energy efficiency of motors can effectively save energy. By presenting the result of a market survey conducted through communication with motor manufacturers, OEMs and end-users in key industries, this paper introduces the market status of electric motors in China, and especially focuses on the development and the barriers to the application of high efficiency motors. Small and medium size motors represent the majority of the motor market. The six industries not only consume 60% of total power of industrial usage but are the main users of small and medium size electric motors. The domestic market for high efficiency motors is still underdeveloped as most of the production is for export, though since 2001 the production of high efficiency motors have been growing continuously. Barriers to the application of high efficiency motors exist in lack of enforcement of policy measures and standards, low awareness of end-users and inactive demand of OEMs. On the other hand, the market is seeing positive impetus for high efficiency motors from government policies, mandatory standards and industry restructure. High efficiency motors are going to be well developed in China.
