The Energy Using Product (EuP) Directive Preparatory Study on Pumps
This paper presents an overview of the progress so far on the Energy Using Product Directive preparatory study (Lot 11) on Pumps. In summary, this work is to collect and analyse technical and commercial data using a standard methodology to enable the European Commission to set minimum environmental standards for pumps. The crucial technical difference from the earlier SAVE study on Pumps is that rather than just considering their energy performance, wider environmental impacts are also quanitified. However, the study has already established that for all the classes of pumps considered, it is the In use phase of the life cycle that has the biggest impact, and so the focus of the study is now on energy efficiency. This paper can necessarily only give an overview of progress so far, for full details please refer to the latest version of the report available at www.ecomotors.org.
