Establishing Digitalized 3-D Reconstruction Model of Chinese Hippocampal Formation and Relative Structures

Purpose: To obtain sectional anatomical data of normal Chinese hippocampal formation and relative structures from the thin transverse sections by computerized freezing milling technique, and to observe their shapes and establish their digitalized visible 3-D reconstruction model using photoshop7.0 and 3-Ds Max7.0 on PC. Materials and methods: Choose the head specimen of one normal Chinese male adult corpse which has been soaked in 10% formalin for more than 2 years, acquired its T1WI and T2WI SE series MR1 to determine no traumatism and diseases in head, after fixing, embedding and freezing, milling it with the SKC500 computerized mill machine which precision is 0.001mm (interval is 0.2mm), then take digital photographs one by one with Canon EOS 200 digital camera (8.2 mega pixels) of each transverse section which paralleled with canthomeatal line; pick out one digital photograph from each 5 (interval is 1mm); then make three-dimensional reconstruction model of the hippocampal formation and relative structures from these data using photoshop7.0 and 3-Ds Max7.0 on PC. Results: Acquired the digital photographs from the thin transverse section of one normal Chinese male adult corpses head which paralleled with canthomeatal line; made the three-dimensional computer reconstruction model of the hippocampal formation and relative structures from these data using photoshop7.0 and 3-Ds Max7.0 on PC. Conclusion: The transverse section of one normal Chinese male adult corpses head which paralleled with canthomeatal line made with the SKC500 computerized mill machine is flat and smooth enough for three- dimensional computer reconstruction; the digital photographs taken by Canon EOS 200 digital camera (8.2 mega pixels) is clear enough to reconstruct three-dimensional computer models; The digitalized visible model of the hippocampus and relative structures can display the special information of this region; It has provided morphological data for radiological diagnosis and operation treatment of the human hippocampus and relative structures.
