Communications Principles and Models for Monitoring and Control of Wind Power Plants
Wind power plant that is a kind of distributed energy system, needs the good coordination and communication between components and electrical power grid system. International Electrotechnical Commission recently issued (IEC) 61400-25 series standards oriented to the communications for monitoring and control of wind power plants. The standards are extended from IEC 61850. The information modelled in the IEC 61400-25 series covers Wind turbine (including rotor, transmission, generator, converter, nacelle, yaw system, tower and alarm system), meteorological system, wind power plant management system and wind power plant grid connection. There are five types of information that can be differentiated and are important for the monitoring and control of wind power plants: process information, statistical information, historical information, control information and descriptive information. After an overview introduction on the structure of IEC 61400- 25 series, the present article mainly describe wind power plant communication principle, modeling method, information models, information exchange models and mappings to specific communication protocols.
