Wind Power Project Implementation and Monetization

This paper examines the specialized know-how required to develop a wind power project, or wind farm. Business process and management know-how is focused on since design and construction are relatively straightforward and established. Key financial hurdles for a successful wind farm project are presented that suggest a process for developers to fund the project from initial wind resource monitoring through implementation, and to develop an post-startup exit strategy to recover their investments and obtain returns that compensate for risk exposure and future cash flows. The process is presented in four stages: Stage 1 (Pre-Funding), Stage 2 (Initial Funding), Stage 3 (Implementation Funding), and Stage 4 (Post-Startup Monetization). These development stages are integral to the design, construction, and operation of the facility and must be considered in whole during project development.
