3MW Wind Turbine Development for Offshore Application
A 3MW wind turbine, which is called as WinDS 3000 <TM>, has been developed to meet needs of offshore wind turbines, considering both low cost of energy (COE), and high reliability, availability, maintainability and serviceability (RAMS). To reduce top head mass, WinDS 3000<TM> employs the integrated drive train system which is configured with 1 main bearing and light gearbox without low speed shaft. A permanent magnet generator with full power converter following a 3 stage gearbox is introduced for high efficiency in partial load operation and for better stable grid connection. In addition, advanced individual pitch control system, and condition monitoring and diagnostic system are introduced to meet the needs of high RAMS. Also, the nacelle sealing and corrosion-wear treatment are taken into account to protect the inner component from sea salinity corrosion for offshore application. So far, the basic design of WinDS 3000<TM> has been performed, and resulted in design load cases and design specifications of main components-gearbox, generator, blades, etc. It is highly expected for the WinDS 3000<TM> to meet requirements of the low COE and high RAMS, considering new design concept, configuration and technologies introduced.
