Development of Wind Power Forecasting System for the Control Area of Power System in Japan
Now, in Japan, NEDO (New Energy Industrial Technology Development Organization) has been developing the system that forecasts wind power output for increasing the quantity of wind power that can be installed. In this project, ITOCHU Techno-Solutions Corporation (CTC) has developed the forecasting system for the control area of power system in Northeast region of Japan. The system mainly consists of observation data collection system and forecast calculation system. We applied a physical model and statistical models for wind power forecast. The physical model is LOCALS which is numerical weather prediction (NWP) model developed by CTC. The statistical models are model output statistics (MOS) based on linear regression. The forecast until the next day is announced at 6:00 everyday and updated every 30 minutes. The demonstration test of the system has been carried out from January of this year. In this paper, we describe the details and operational status of the system.
