Opportunities for Wind Resource Assessment Using Both Numerical and Observational Wind Atlases-Modelling, Verification and Application

This paper presents an updated state-of-the-art recommended approach to wind resource assessment, which employs both mesoscale modelling, measurements and microscale modelling. Results of such an approach are primarily a Numerical Wind Atlas and an Observational Wind Atlas, which have been compared and verified using measurements. The application in wind farm project planning and preparation is discussed with an emphasis on application of the Numerical Wind Atlas.
