Research of Variable Swirl on a 4-valve Diesel Engine
Based on the relationship of fuel injection velocity and swirl motion after compress stroke near TDC, a numerical model of injection fuel spray veloctity and swirl was established. The optimum swirl ratio for a certain 4 valve direct injection diesel was calculated with different engine revs. Two layouts of inlet ports were designed with a swirl control valve in direct port. The swirl ratio and flow coefficient was experimented on the steady flow test rig with different opening cross-section area of direct port. The results show that, the optimal swirl ratio can be achieved through the adjustment of the swirl control valve.
