Application of nanofluids in cooling of engine combustion components
Nanofluids is a kind of high efficient strengthening heat-transfer medium on account of its high thermal conductivity. In this paper, Cu-water nanofluids was applied in the cooling of engine combustion components and the commercial CFD software STAR-CD was employed to perform the 3-D numerical simulation of engine cooling system with different concentration nanofluids. The flow field, the pressure field and the heat-transfer coefficient distribution on the wall was clearly revealed by the simulation. Compared with the water, Cu-water nanofluids can evidently enhance the heat-sinking capability of engine, and the enhancement was larger with increasing the concentration of nanoparticles. When the concentration was 5%, the heat dissipating capacity increased by 43.85%. With a remarkable enhancement on heat-transfer capability, the velocity of fluid in engine cooling jacket kept almost the same, and the total pressure reduction only increased by 7%, which can all be accepted.
