Regeneration of Diesel Particulate Filter Using Indirect Non-thermal Plasma

Although Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is a leading technology to trap Particulate Matter (PM) in diesel engine, regeneration is necessary after a period of usage. A new method of DPF regeneration utilizes indirect nonthermal plasma to produce ozone that has strong oxidation and inject it into simulated exhaust gas to convert NO to NO<,2> for regeneration purpose. This system can realize continuous regeneration even at low exhaust temperature including cold start or braking operation. The performance of surface Dielectric Barrier Discharge (DBD) on producing ozone is investigated under atmospheric temperature. And DPF regeneration process is studied by using ozone or NO<,2> combined with ozone respectively.
