Finite Element Analysis of Acoustic Performance of Three-pass Perforated Duct Mufflers
The finite element method is used to predict and analyze the acoustic attenuation performance of three-pass perforated duct mufflers. For a prototype three-pass perforated duct muffler, the transmission loss predictions from finite element, method agree well with experimental results, which demonstrated the applicability and accuracy of the finite element method. The finite element method is then employed to investigate the acoustic attenuation performance of three-pass perforated muffler with end-resonator, which is expected to improve the low frequency noise attenuation of the typical three-pass perforated duct muffler. The effects of geometrical parameters of the end-resonator on the acoustic attenuation performance of the muffler are examined in detail.
