Research of Multi-parameters Influence on Lubrication and Friction Characteristics of Piston Ring-Cylinder Liner in Internal Combustion Engines

By combining both the components coupling and physical fields coupling together, the in-cylinder gas, piston assembly-cylinder liner and coolant of diesel engine are considered as a whole. The 3D transient heat transfer model, the hydrodynamic lubrication model and the heat transfer model of oil film Coupled globally, a 3D transient thermal mixed lubrication and friction model, with regard to the heat transfer, lubrication and friction of piston ring and liner, was built in this paper. The above model was applied to a 6110 diesel engine to carry out lubrication and friction calculation for its piston ring-cylinder liner. The influence of the surface roughness, the average benchmark pressure of ring, the temperature field of ring-liner is discussed. The calculation results show that the heat conduction between piston assembly and cylinder liner directly effects the temperature field of ring-liner, thus, impacts the lubrication and friction of ring- liner; lubrication oil film acted as the heat transfer medium between piston assembly and cylinder liner, whose thickness straightly affects the heat transfer of piston set and cylinder liner, as well its temperature field. That is, the solid ball heat conduction and the lubrication friction of piston ring effect each other, it should be taken into account in the design of the lubrication and friction for piston ring. Furthermore, both the surface roughness and the average benchmark pressure of ring are important factors, which impact the lubrication and friction between ring and liner.
