RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF SUPER LWR AND SUPER FAST REACTOR

The concept of supercritical-pressure light water cooled reactors (SCWR) is developed at the University of Tokyo since 1989. The thermal reactor version with downward flowing water rods is called Super LWR. The fast reactor version is called Super Fast Reactor (FR). This paper mainly describes the conceptual design studies on the Super LWR. The reactors have never been built. We developed the concept by quantifying the characteristics by computational analysis. The study includes design and analysis of fuel, core, plant heat balance, plant control, safety, start-up and stability.
