CFD ANALYSIS OF THERMAL-HYDRAULIC BEHAVIOR IN SCWR TYPICAL FLOW CHANNELS

This paper presents the CFD analysis on the local flow and heat transfer behavior in various types of flow channels of a SCWR fuel assembly. Based on the comparison of the numerical results with the experimental data available in circular tubes, the SSG Reynolds stress model is recommended for SCWR conditions. A strong non-uniformity of the circumferential distribution of heat transfer appears in various types of flow channels. This non- uniformity becomes stronger, as the bulk temperature is close to the pseudo-critical value. A much lower heat transfer coefficient is observed at constant wall temperature conditions as that at constant heat flux conditions. Heat transfer deterioration depends not only on flow parameters, but also on boundary conditions and geometric parameters. Turbulent mixing plays a dominant role for the inter-channel energy exchange, also between sub-channels with asymmetric flow conditions. It also shows unusual behaviour in the vicinity of the pseudo-critical point and needs further investigations.
