Metallocene Catalyzed Polymerization of Ethylene Using Silica Supported bis(terbutyl Cyclopentadienyl) Zr Cl2 Complex

Silica supported and unsupported metallocene catalyst based on bis(terbutyl Cyclopentadienyl) ZrCl2 complex were used to polymerize ethylene. The Synthesized polyethylene was characterized using DSC, IR, and NMR tests. Results of NMR and DCS, and molecular weight determination show that the polymerization with supported catalyst leads to high molecular weight polyethylene with a more structured molecule compared with those obtained using unsupported metallocene catalyst. Also, comparison of activities of this catalyst with those metallocene catalysts reported in literature indicates that this catalyst becomes less active when it is immobilized.
