A New Approach to Design Energy Efficient Water Allocation Networks
At present, to obtain an energy efficient water allocation network, a mathematical model combining water allocation networks and heat-exchange networks is often used. But such model has substantive variables and is hard to solve. To reduce variables in the mathematical model, in this paper, firstly, the reason why different water allocation networks have different energy performance is analyzed. It is found that reducing the times of sub-stream’s temperature fluctuation in water allocation network is beneficial for energy performance of the system. There are two methods to reduce the sub-stream’s temperature fluctuation, one of which is to reduce the unnecessary flows of water in the water networks, the other of which is to reduce the number of sub-stream’s temperature peak or vale. By considering the two methods, a new mathematical model only concerning water allocation networks is presented and the resultant networks feature good energy performance. Compared with former models, this model has fewer variables, consequently is easier to solve.
