Estimation of the mass transfer coefficient of PVDF hollow fiber membranes in gas-liquid contactors for SO2 gas removal
The micro-porous asymmetric PVDF hollow fiber membranes were prepared by the dry-jet wet phase inversion process. The characteristics of the membranes, such as mean pore’s size, effective porosity and morphology were evaluated. PVDF hydrophobic membranes were tested for the absorption of SO2 with aqueous solutions of various chemicals such as Na2SO3, Na2CO3, NaHCO3 and NaOH. The mathematical model of membrane process was developed and solved using a finite element method. The mass transfer coefficient of membrane was estimated by regression of experimental data and predictions from the simulation of the mathematical model.
