Esterification of Acid or Alcohol Mixtures Using Reactive Distillation
A conceptual design of reactive distillation process with reactants of mixed alcohols or acids as a feed is presented. Two reactive distillation systems are studied. One is esterification of n-butyl and n-amyl alcohol mixture with acetic acid; the other is esterification of acetic and propyl acid mixture with n-butyl alcohol. NRTL-HOC thermodynamic models are used for modeling the vapor-liquid and vapor-liquid-liquid equilibrium. The reactions are catalyzed by Amberlyst 15.and 35. In this work, there are three configurations investigated. It is purpose to infer the feasible configurations for each mixing system and compare different structures.
