OPTIMAL POLYMER PRODUCTION IN THE CSTR
A very important objective for polymer production is precise quality control of polymers, which is essentially related to the molecular weight distribution (MWD) of the product polymer. In this paper, we consider a problem formulation issue for a cationic polymerization in continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR). The objective function for obtaining a product with the best match of a given target MWD profile showed a degree of freedom when it was used to determine an optimal operating condition. It is concluded that an additional constraint such as polymer concentration is needed to determine an optimal solution.
