Integrating Reliability Availability and Maintainability (RA M) into Process Synthesis

This work presents a new approach to bring together process synthesis and RAM analysis into one systematic optimisation framework. The concept of Process Superstructure Availability (PSA) is developed, which builds a bridge between process synthesis and RAM analysis. In the model, reliability distribution is described by time-dependent Weibull distribution instead of traditional exponential distribution; both preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance are considered. The optimal process design is then obtained by considering the trade off between capital investment and operation cost through whole plant life cycle.
