Toword Dependable Process Control Systems: Integration of Fault Diagnosis and Controller Redesign
It is inevitable that some faults will occur in any process plants. Controlled systems in a plant are strongly connected each other and a fault in one part of a system may affects all parts in the plant. While usual control only consider systems during nominal operation, dependable control deals with systems subject to faults. Different from adaptive or robust control, this approach includes active redesign of the control. The first step of this approach is detection and identification of a fault. The second step is redesign of the corresponding control. If the fault leads to parameter changes in the system, then the appropriate response is to adjust the controller parameter. If a component becomes unavailable, redesign of the control is required to keep the system running. In this paper, a concept of the dependable control for process systems is described and several solutions for increasing control systems dependability are illustrated.
