Oscillation Detection and Diagnosis in a Chemical Plant
This paper deals with the detection and diagnosis of plant-wide oscillations present in a Singapore chemical plant. We propose an improved independent components analysis (ICA) based method and apply it to detect the oscillations present in the process. A Higher Order Statistical method followed by the use of pv-op plots detected stiction in a control loop, which is determined to be the root cause of the oscillations. The presence of valve stiction is further confirmed by employing the controller gain change method. These methods successfully identified the root cause of the oscillations for the industrial case study using routine operating data.
